EBEC (European BEST Engineering Competition) is an engineering competition, where teams of students compete against each other trying to solve different technical problems. Students are given the chance to test their engineering knowledge, innovative thinking skills and their ability to work together in teams. There is no difference, whether You are a mechanic or economist, what really counts is your way of creative problem solving. The winners of the local round compete against each other in National and Regional BEST Engineering Competitions. The European Final gathers the winners of the latter and usually happens in August.
EBEC Erlangen is held annually in Erlangen and is the local round of the international engineering competition.
Important: The event is held in English.
You have the chance to compete in one of the following categories:
Team Design is a category in which you can be creative, but also show your practical skills. You will be given materials and tools in order to build a practical device. Hard to imagine what a task might look like? In the previous years there were cool challenges like building an amphibian car or a catapult, but this year’s topic won’t be announced until the actual day of the competition, so be excited!
Case Study is the category, where it is all about analytical and conceptual thinking combined with creativity. You will be given a problem, this year by Siemens, that occurs in real life industry. You have the chance to work on a solution for it and come up with your very own concept. First you will get an introductory speech by a Siemens Manager. After that you will work on the Case Study and present your solution to a jury consisting of Siemens employees, professors, researchers and representatives of the topic. Of course, you compete against the other teams.
